Our guiding vision comes from Jeremiah 1:4-12.
When Jeremiah receives his calling from God to be a prophet, he argues that he is too young and cannot speak to the people. But God reaches out and touches Jeremiah’s lips, putting God’s own words into the mouth of the prophet. Then, God sends Jeremiah a vision of an almond branch to show that God is watching for His word to be fulfilled.
Jeremiah 1:11-12: The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled."
In Israel, the almond tree is always the first to bloom in the springtime: it watches for the changing of the seasons and responds readily. Like the almond tree, we hope as young adults in the church to be watching and anticipating God’s call for each of us. We hope to build and sustain a community of young adults who will be friends, family, and servants in the Church, eager to fulfill God’s will.
